For most of my life, I believed that having a singular passion was the golden ticket to success and fulfillment. I envied people who seemed to have a clear path—a singular focus that shaped their lives. You know the type: the ones who announce at six years old that they want to be a doctor or an artist, and they follow that dream relentlessly. My poor mother had to listen to deal with so many tears as I insisted that I was the only one that didn't have my "thing" figured out.
Meanwhile, I jumped from one interest to the next, always curious, always exploring, but also questioning myself. Why couldn’t I just pick one thing? Why did everything light me up for a while, only for something else to catch my attention later? I remember feeling so much shame for begging to sign up for lessons and promising that this was it, only to have the spark die out over time. Or jumping into a project with full passion and then feeling it wane.
For years, I saw this as a flaw. I thought it meant I lacked discipline or direction. Society certainly didn’t help, with its love for niches, specialties, and titles that neatly fit on a business card. Heck, I even advised clients as a marketing strategies that they had to find their niche, all the while questioning that advice for myself.
But over time, and through a lot of self-reflection and embracing who I truly am, I’ve come to realize something powerful: being multi-passionate isn’t a flaw. It’s a gift. And not just for me—but for the world.
The Truth About Being Multi-Passionate
Being multi-passionate means following what lights you up. It means diving into new interests, mastering skills, and then offering those gifts to others in ways that are uniquely yours. And while that process may look scattered to some, it’s anything but.
Every life experience, every interest, every talent we uncover contributes to the person we are becoming. I’ve learned that I’m at my best when I allow myself to flow freely from one passion to another. It’s when I feel most alive, creative, and fully expressed. The idea of tying myself to one thing forever feels suffocating. It feels like putting a lid on my potential. And why would I do that when there’s so much to explore, so much to create, so much to offer?
If you’ve ever felt ashamed of being “all over the place” or judged for not sticking to one path, let me offer this reframe: what if your ability to embrace multiple passions is your superpower?
I remember saying to a friend, "I don't even know what to share on social media at the moment because I can just imagine people snarkily saying, "What is the girl up to now?"
My friend's reponse started to shift how I was feeling about being multi-passionate when she said, "Are you kidding? It's the exact opposite. That's what I love about your account. When I see that you've shared something I can't wait to see what you're up to and I find it so inspiring to watch you follow your own path."
The Problem With a Singular Focus
Here’s the thing: when we force ourselves to niche down into one area for the sake of fitting in or being “successful,” we’re not only stifling ourselves—we’re robbing the world of our full range of gifts.
Imagine if you ignored the things that sparked your curiosity or refused to follow your heart because it didn’t fit into a neat, linear plan. How much beauty, growth, or connection would be lost?
I love the idea that Elizabeth Gilbert shared in her book Big Magic about how there are ideas waiting to be birthed in the world just floating around in the ether and they choose people to drop in for. What if you feel an inspired idea or a pull to explore something and you don't give yourself permission to pursue it? It is either never given a chance to be expressed or it goes on to find the next person who is willing to say yes.
I’ve come to believe that most of us aren’t meant to walk a single, narrow path. We’re meant to grow, evolve, and adapt as we move through life. Every passion we follow, even if it’s only for a season, teaches us something valuable. And those lessons? They shape the way we show up for ourselves and others.
For example, my background in marketing taught me storytelling and strategy. My journey into energy healing deepened my intuition and my connection to others. My experience in starting a business, gave me knoweldge to share with other entrepreneurs. My natural talent for writing and bringing an idea into reality helped me to publish my book.
My natural curiosity and intuitive nature help me to be a good mentor. My mediumship work helps me communicate on behalf of Spirit and hold space for those who need healing. These passions may seem unrelated on the surface, but they’re all threads in the tapestry of who I am.
Following the Spark
Being multi-passionate isn’t about chasing random whims—it’s about listening to that spark of excitement, that whisper in your soul. It’s about trusting that every time you follow that spark, you’re moving closer to the fullest expression of who you are.
When a passion no longer lights you up, it’s okay to let it go. That doesn’t mean you’ve failed; it means you’ve grown. There’s no shame in moving on to something new, especially when that new thing is calling you to step into a different version of yourself.
Inspiring Others to Embrace Their Nature
I’m sharing this because I know I’m not alone. So many of us feel pressure to stick to one thing, to pick a lane and stay there. But I want to tell you this: it’s okay to be multi-passionate. It’s okay to embrace every part of who you are, to explore and evolve, and to unapologetically share your gifts with the world.
The world needs people who are curious, who grow and adapt, who bring their unique blend of skills and experiences to the table. I believe that we are spiritual beings having a human experience, and that experience is meant to be rich and varied. Your passions, talents, and interests aren’t random—they’re pieces of the puzzle that make up you.
Living Unapologetically
So here I am, fully owning my multi-passionate nature. I am a mother, a wife, a women going through mid-life, a writer, a mentor, a medium, a marketer, an energy healer, a creator, and so much more. I refuse to choose just one thing because I’m not meant to. I’m meant to follow the spark, to grow, and to share my gifts with the world in whatever form they take.
And I hope you will too. If you’ve ever felt torn between your passions or doubted the value of your multi-faceted nature, consider this your permission slip. Follow the thing that lights you up. Let yourself grow and evolve. Share your gifts, unapologetically.
Because when you do, you’re not only living in alignment with who you truly are—you’re also giving the world the very best of you. And that’s a gift we all need.
